Focus of work

Our research interest lies in genetic predisposition and epigenetic mechanisms of obesity and its co-morbidities with a special emphasis on type 2 diabetes. We apply genome wide approaches to paired samples of visceral and subcutaneous human adipose tissue as well as candidate gene based analyses to further elucidate the concerted action of environmental and genetic factors contributing to the obesity epidemics and individual fat distribution. In particular, we analyze depot-specificity in both chromatin accessibility and mRNA modifications and how this relates to clinical variables related to obesity.
